Tuesday, I went barefoot to raise global awareness for children's health and education. One Day Without Shoes, hosted by TOMS, taught me that absolutely, without hyperbole, something so little can go such a long way. Did you know that providing shoes for school uniforms can increase children’s school attendance up to 62%. That's just one fact I learned from TOMS, but it really affected me. What would my life have been like, if I didn't have the luxury of having shoes to walk to elementary school in? Community support and empowerment is what it's all about, people. This goes far beyond our mere civic duty (mere being a grave understatement), but what is our birthright, our gift to ourselves and to each other; to be a global citizen, a thinker, one with compassion, and one of humility.
